BTU/h describes heat input; gallons describe stored volume. They measure different things. For a tankless unit, confirm usable flow at the temperature rise you need.

MEASURE FIRST. TRAVEL WITH CONFIDENCE.

A confident choice starts with the fit.

Record what is behind the exterior door. Bring these details to the model manual, the CAMPLUX team and your RV service professional.

W: width · H: height · D: usable depth. Illustration is not to scale.

Measure width, height and usable depth separately. Record the old model, available fuel and electrical supplies, door coverage and service clearances. Confirm the exact installation with the current model manual.

FEEL AT HOME, FURTHER AFIELD

The comforts you came back for.

After the drive. Before the next adventure.

A shower, the dishes, a quieter evening in your RV. Start with the system that suits your routine, then make sure the available fuel, power and installation space support it.

Comfort includes the cold-weather plan.

Check each model’s operating conditions and winterization instructions. Freeze protection, where fitted, is not a substitute for preparing the RV and its plumbing for storage or loss of supply.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Plan the upgrade before the next trip.

A product shortlist is the beginning. Use the exact model documents to check the complete installation and your seasonal use plans.

01

Start with the existing model

Record the old heater’s make, model and the exact replacement SKU you are considering.

02

Measure behind the door

Separate rough-opening width and height from usable depth and exterior door coverage.

03

Confirm the supplies

Match propane, control power and electric-heating requirements to the exact model.

04

Plan for the whole installation

Check vent position, connections, access, seasonal use and the current manual with your installer.

Model-specific documentation

Match the SKU and manual revision to the heater you are ordering.

RV WATER HEATERS, EXPLAINED

Better questions. A better fit.

Should I choose a tankless or a hybrid RV water heater?

A tankless unit heats water as it flows, so usable output depends on the required flow, inlet temperature and available fuel. The Ultra RG600 models store six gallons and offer propane, electric or combined heating. Choose around your camping routine, draw pattern and available supply, then confirm the specific installation requirements.

Will it replace my Suburban, Atwood or Dometic water heater?

Some CAMPLUX product pages describe retrofit applications, but a brand name or old tank capacity does not establish a fit. Compare the exact existing model, the rough opening, available depth, exterior door coverage, vent location and service connections against the current manual for the new SKU. Have an RV service professional confirm the match.

Is the exterior door size the same as the installation cutout?

No. The door covers the outside of the opening, while the heater body and its required installation space sit behind it. Measure opening width, height and available depth separately. Check the manual for mounting and service clearances as well as door coverage; a door measurement alone cannot confirm compatibility.

Do these RV heaters need 12 V DC or 120 V AC?

The linked RS264/RS264B manual specifies 12 V DC electrical input with propane as the fuel. The RG600 product descriptions specify 12 V DC ignition power and 120 V AC for electric heating. Check the exact manual for every model, including the Classic series. Fuel type does not tell you all of a heater’s electrical requirements.

Why should I check temperature rise instead of just maximum GPM?

A tankless heater must raise incoming water to the outlet temperature you need. Colder inlet water requires a larger rise, which changes the useful hot-water flow at a given heat input. Compare performance at the relevant temperature rise rather than treating a maximum GPM figure as the flow available in every campsite or season.

Does freeze protection replace winterization?

No. The RS264/RS264B manual describes freeze protection that depends on the required power and gas supply, and it also gives separate winterization instructions. For travel, storage, power loss or freezing conditions, follow the instructions for your exact model. Do not assume that a built-in feature protects every pipe or replaces winterization.

Can a portable camping heater replace a built-in RV heater?

Portable outdoor shower heaters and built-in RV water heaters serve different applications. An outdoor-only portable heater must not be treated as an appliance for the RV interior or an enclosed compartment. Use the dedicated portable collection for campsite shower options, and verify the approved location and installation instructions for the product you choose.

How do I choose a color or door package?

Use the exact SKU and package listing, not the series name alone. The current built-in models are listed separately in black and white. Confirm the included door, its coverage, the heater body and the controls on that product page before ordering; a color choice does not change the need to confirm installation fit.

What information should I send when asking for help?

Share your existing heater’s make and model, opening width and height, available depth, a photo of the existing exterior opening and connections, and the CAMPLUX SKU you are considering. Include the fuel and electrical supplies you can confirm. The fit checklist on this page helps organize those details; it does not approve an installation.
