It has a sleek design and we love the touch buttons that makes it easy to adjust water temperature if it has been mounted in a bit of a tight space like ours is. Really helpful that they include the exhaust pipe to go through the wall. Would be even better if the Camplux wall thimble was available for purchase on the website as a checkout option add-on. I went onto Amazon to get that.
Our house has a small apartment where we live. We've been running the heater for about a month now and it's just what we needed. The plumbing here is impossibly tight space-wise, so this was the perfect solution. The heater fits on our kitchen wall. (Inside) It's set to 120 degrees and heats it up in a few seconds. We live in a northern climate so we'll see how it holds up during winter. One other thing, a wall thimble is required for the exhaust pipe on this heater, which is an odd size. The company makes the proper size but it's not included when you buy the heater so be sure to pick it up as well.
After installing tweak your mixing valve on your shower as your hot water pressure will now be different. Also be aware running your sink while showering may be a problem so look into a low pressure shower head it definitely helps or a blast of cold water when someone uses the hot water while showering will be inevitable. But overall I'm very satisfied. My house has 3 sinks 1 shower 1 dishwasher and washing machine obviously I don't run them all at the same time but I'll never go back to a tank water heater & my Gas bill has dropped dramatically. Went from ruffly $80ish a month in the summer to $40ish a month. It literally is paying for itself.
Arrived quickly and well packaged. Installed at the cottage last week. Took a few hours because I was being careful to go step by step, but it works just fine and setup is very straightforward once installed. Instructions are very limited, but it's relatively intuitive to connect to a propane tank. But, this is a very basic package, with a small bag's worth of parts - each hookup is unique, so you have to figure out what you need.We used pex piping, so needed to buy adaptors for that, and we needed to buy the propane hookups. None of this was a surprise and it wasn't hard, just be sure to use the provided O-rings to ensure a snug fit and no heater leak.Solid product, hope it lasts. Would recommend for small applications. Have noticed it struggles to mix hot and cold water (it needs to be one or the other), and the instructions do recommend that you don't mix - that might affect how you use it.
I got one of these 3.18gpm automatic heaters from a warehouse deal. A white one if that makes any difference. It is in Fahrenheit rather than the Celsius that would be expected from prior reviews. Not sure of the other changes, but I can also say that the blower fan is at the top of the unit just under the flap valves. I believe the combustion blower was at the bottom on the earlier units.I've yet to see if it has low temperature protection in this model, but I doubt it. I will be adding a thermal switch inside that starts up the blower fan whenever the internal temp drops below 40. It should run here and there drawing warm inside air through the device occasionally all winter.I've only hooked it up to test it then put it away so far. I am not at the stage with my tiny house to install it yet, but I couldn't pass up the warehouse deal and bought it the moment I spotted it since this was the unit I was going to use anyway. In my initial testing, the only thing I would consider a flaw is that you need quite a flow to make it start up. I would like if it started at more like 0.3GPM rather than almost 0.7. That's a lot of water for me. I use 0.5 GPM on every fixture, even the shower even though I have unlimited well water. The blower makes a bit of noise, and there is an audible clink as the flaps shut when the blower powers off. No big deal, not as loud as a typical bathroom vent fan. For me this will partly double as the bathroom vent on my wall. Something to pay attention to is that most houses are in a negative pressure during the winter. Especially down low in a basement. Those who use this in the winter and have it freeze may be experiencing cold air being constantly drawn into the unit past the flaps because their house is leaking warm air above. Something like a chimney wastes a TON of hot air which has to come from somewhere.I was able to turn the flow rate up very high before it couldn't hold 120*F anymore, at least to me given how little water I am used to. For sure this thing will be able to give you at least a pleasant shower or one large warm water task at a time even with a feed temp of 33*f. The real limit will be getting it to actually start with the lower flows needed for that. I'm sure that it will do at least 1GPM even in those extremes though. Didn't do the BTU/hr calculation for the water volume and temperature. The 3.18GPM will assume a more reasonable feed temperature of course.Speaking of BTU this claims 80k BTU/hr. I don't know if that's the gas consumption rate, or the actual thermal output. Assuming it's thermal, the gas rate is probably more like 96k. This means that the heater will run maxed out for 1 hr per gallon of propane, or about 4 hours total on a 20lb tank that is full at absolute max flow rate. Ultimately this means that it should last quite a long time for a family taking average showers. LPG has 95,500BTU energy per gallon. This is also reaching the limits of a 20lb propane tank especially if it's cold. When propane gas is drawn from the tank the remaining liquid propane boils to replace the gas consumed. This lowers the temperature which then changes the pressure coefficient to be lower. Eventually it will get so cold it cannot boil enough to maintain pressure. This heater could freeze a 20lb tank like that at max flow.I will come back and update this when I eventually have it installed, then again when someday it fails as all things do. hopefully it remains a 5 star review either way.Final note, take a close look at the measurements. This thing is HUGE if you're used to the D battery ignited ones. It's small for what it is, don't get me wrong, but I was caught off guard by it slightly because I never even looked at the dimensions of it. Not negative at all. Just an observation. I assumed the output pipe was 2", so in my head the device was going to be some 30% smaller.
I mounted the hot water heater in my pool house for a shower and sink. Insulation may be a bit of a challenge for a novice plumber, but not outside the scope for most handyman types and it work well on the first try.
Bought this one to replace the exact same one, used as a whole house unit for a 1500sq home with 3 people did a good job for 5 years debut started failing wo we got another one at this price I'm still ahead even if I have to buy another in 5 years compared to the one at home depot
I bought this in april and installed my self. i do not have any plumbing skills what so ever . install was a breeze. works great and pretty quiet when running. just wish i would have bought a bigger one. definitely worth the money. and i have more room in the basement now that the big obnoxious water heater is gone
We had a hard time finding a 150 psi relief valve. We had to order it and so were without hot water until it came in. There were plenty of 200 psi but not what was called for by the instructions.
Easy to install and well built.Temperature works perfectly. Had to adjust flow rate to make higher temperatures but still good. Will get a few more for other houses.
My husband replaced our older gas hot water heater with this tankless hot water heater. It should be noted that he is an electrical/mechanical engineer It was easy to install and works perfectly. This is not an instant hot water heater it still takes a few seconds to empty the cool water from the line and allow the hot water to flow. It is a great replacement for the old water heater.
I've been using Camplux water heaters for several years now and so far they are durable and reliable. I have 2 WH's installed at a remote off-grid location at a high altitude (5000' +) and they both work flawlessly. One is about 3 years old, maybe 4. The other is a new version of the same water heater, but Camplux added a feature that is AWESOME. Set the temp and walk away. Inlet water temperature and ambient air temp doesn't matter. If you set the temp to 100 F, then it'll be 100 F. Much better than manually setting gas and water flow, winter or summer. It just works. I have found that the battery operated units don't work well at high altitudes. Get the 120v model and put an inverter on a 12 volt deep cycle battery. They use very little current. Great job on this model Camplux!!
Really cool option to getting hot water. With three girls and myself, the propane last about 4 weeks with showers everyday. And the girls use hot water only it seems like. But stays hot. Never cools down unless I want it to. Very hard to get the flow of hot water to a point where I can get warm instead of piping hot water. But you can do it with adjustments on the thermostat and cold water inlet flow to the water heater. Good buy if not supplying too much. I would imagine you don’t want this thing working too hard every time you use it.
Not the easiest to install (of course my husband makes everything harder than it should be, so that may be on him.) But we are in our 38 ft 5th wheel almost full time, and we never run out of hot water. It also doesn’t use near as much propane as I thought it would.
Easy to install when using the same space as the old tank water heater used. It freed up a lot of space in the laundry. It doesn't have a pilot light so it will save on the gas bill. I did have to turn down the flow rate on the washing machine so it could keep up. My water pressure is pretty high at 85 PSI. It's been working great since day 1.
Arrived well packaged and in excellent condition. Installation was simple. All parts were provided for installation. The instructions are clear and accurate. Product works very well, as described. Provides plenty of hot water for two adults and three dogs in a 1000 square foot home. Excellent value. I would purchase this product again and I do recommend it to friends and family.
My water heater died. I decided to upgrade to a tankless. Found this one as a better price than most. I have a 1000 sq foot-ish home that includes the unfinished basement. Only 1 bath... Install was not... too bad. I had to do some research on making sure that it could go into the same location and had to move it. It's really compact compared to that behemoth of a tank. I did have to call tech support and they were really helpful but thought I was on a camp site, lol. It was my mistake because of installing service valves upside down. I was able to fire it up and OMG! You don't get hot water instantly... it has to travel through the pipes and get kicked in but... I LOVE IT! ENDLESS HOT WATER! I like to take hot baths. Normally, I run out of hot water but no more of that! Mind you, I like to go to spas on vaca that are like traditional traditional asian bath houses. That water is HOT HOT HOT! I took my meat thermometer to the tub 118 F. I can make most of my herbal teas now with just my faucet. This thing is amazballs!
Just bought and installed the unit Don't know how long it will last but it works very well. The exhaust flu is an approximatly 2-in stainless steel thin wall tube we had to fabricate an adapter to fit the old 5-in existing flue of the water heater we replaced however we found a hole saw size that exactly cut into a flu plug so it was an easy adaptation just cut a hole in the plug and put high temp silicone around the very tight gapThe installation needs a pressure relief valve and a pressure regulator which we use from the old unit
Replaced a 40 gallon tank with this tankless water heater not only did I save a few hundred dollars its size is awesome. Very dependable constantly have hot water with a household of 5 I recommend !!!
Apparently I accidentally ordered the propane version instead of natural gas. I was beyond the normal return window and afraid I would have to buy a completely new unit. I contacted Camplux to see if by chance we could work something out and they were very willing to work out a deal for an exchange. So far I’m seeing top notch customer service and will be back to comment on how the NG unit works once I receive it and get it hooked up.UPDATE: I’ve now had this unit in operation for over a year and work is great.
So far I'm impressed, especially at this price point. Very easy to install, easy to use and beautiful to look at. Don't waste your money at Lowe's or Home Depot. This heater would cost 4 times this amount at either store.
Just installed in my cabin, and thus far, it works well. I was somewhat skeptical after reading some reviews. Unlike others, my temperature gauge is in fahrenheit. Worked well for my first shower this weekend.
Easy to install and operate. Watched a couple youtube videos before diving into the install, used that information to purchase materials needed to install. We used PEX pipe, have done two of theses units in the last year, one in an office with kitchen, bath and shower the other in mobile home with two baths kitchen and laundry. Both units have worked perfect right out of the box.Recommend and will buy again.
The unit works well I have installed it to take care of my kitchen and laundry room I have plenty of hot water to run both as well as a 1/2 bath. I install this myself and free up a lot of space.
I didnt need any tech support so cant vouch for that but, its pretty easy install and they provide good instructions and even thread tape lol..works good even at low pressure. HOT WATER FOR SURE !
I'm actually amazed with this product! Gets my sink up to 140°F. You do have to learn how to use it. Like with the washer we've had to adjust the hot water line to slow down the flow in order to get the water above warm. Definitely am not running 2 hot water spouts at once. But if you time everything right it's actually better than a tanked water heater because you never do run out of hot water! You'll probably have to adapt the 2in venting. It doesn't say but the hot water male fittings coming out of the hot water heater are 5/8in. You'll need thread sealant for the gas line because the fitting isn't quite correct.Edit :1 month later now it isn't working. E5 ERROR.Edit: 6 months later. It only took a day to fix the E5 ERROR. A piece of rust fell into the flap and didn’t allow it to open. I removed it and hooked it back up and it’s been working ever since.
Easy and simple to hook up and saves so much space in our tiny house .It takes us around 3 months to use up a gallon of propane! Allows for hot water even if you live off-grid. We get endless hot water within a few seconds ,we really love that we can adjust the out temp, the display and touch buttons make it look like a smart phone,so we don't have to turn on any cold water and try to get the mix right every time.
the product looks very nice. i would display it on any wall in the house although i do have a utility closet. I havent hooked it up yet but appears to be a very simple set up so hopefully it works if you dont hear back from me that means it works great i will come back and negatively review if im and unsatisfied with the product
This heater is awesome. The build quality is excellent. The performance is very good also. This will provide plenty of hot water. It is very efficient and sips propane. If you are looking for a propane water heater, this machine is an excellent combination of price, features, quality, and performance.
